Lawmakers Consider Lifetime Insurance For Fallen First Responders’ Families

Indiana lawmakers are considering a plan to offer the families of fallen first responders lifetime insurance coverage.

State Senator Michael Crider, yesterday told a statehouse panel that insurance is a costly burden and that’s unfair to ask a fallen police officer’s widow to pay for it.

Some lawmakers want to make the law retroactive for officers who’ve died in the past.

But some lawmakers are quietly expressing concerns that the costs will be too much for local police departments to be able to pay.
