Insect-Borne Illnesses on the Rise

As the summer of 2018 continues, insect-borne illnesses, especially from ticks, are on the rise.

Dr. Jorge  Parada, an infectious disease specialist at the National Pest Management Association, says ticks and their support network are more prevalent than ever.

Parada says most insect repellents are effective against ticks and mosquitoes.

He also says that during summer, you should wear thick, long-sleeved shirts and long pants tucked into boots when camping in woods.

Lyme disease, West Nile virus and Zika are among the dangerous diseases carried by ticks and mosquitoes.
