The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded the Knox County Drug Court a $500,000 Court Enhancement Grant.
It will be used to increase program capacity, enhance supervision of participants, provide more training for team members, and perform a study to evaluate the effectiveness of the drug court program.
The funding will start in January.
There have been 19 graduates of the program since its inception in 2016.
The program typically takes 18-24 months to complete.
The program was expanded last year from 10 to 30 participants after receiving a state grant.
The federal grant will allow over 50 participants next year.
The Drug Court Program is aimed at reducing recidivism and protecting public safety by intensely supervising the participants and engaging them in substance abuse treatment and returning them to the workforce.
