The Indiana Department of Homeland Security says the Tell City home where three children were killed in a fire had no working smoke detectors.
The fire happened three days after Christmas.
The state fire marshal’s office has not been able to figure out why the fire started.
State law mandates that smoke detectors be installed by the property owners.
If it’s a rental property, the landlord is responsible for maintaining smoke detectors.
In this case the home was a rental.
