The sheriff in Vanderburgh County wants to add another 250 beds to the county’s jail.
Sheriff Dave Wedding made his case for a new jail yesterday.
He told county leaders that he needs more space to separate inmates, and to deal with overcrowding.
Wedding says the current jail is built for 500 inmates, but usually holds about 800 people.
The sheriff also says he needs more room to handle a recent spike in underage inmates who must kept away from adult prisoners.
