Defund the Police Plan Criticized in Evansville

Some city council members in Evansville say there’s no doubt that taking 250-thousand-dollars from the city’s police budget and spending it on affordable housing is defunding the police.

Evansville’s council is split over the plan from Council President Alex Burton.

Monday night, councilwoman Missy Mosby said there’s no other way to frame the plan other than defunding the local police department.

Burton’s proposal will come back for a vote in a few weeks.

Evansville’s police chief last night said he doesn’t think losing the 250-thousand-dollars will be too much of a loss for his department.
