State Lawmaker Proposing Hike in Minimum Wage

Indiana State Senator Eddie Melton of Gary is proposing a hike in the state’s minimum wage.

The minimum wage in Indiana hasn’t been increased in 12 years.

Melton has filed legislation that would gradually raise the state’s minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $15 per hour by 2027.

Under Melton’s proposal, the minimum wage would be raised to $10 per hour in 2022 and then raised by one dollar every year after that until 2027, when the hourly rate would reach $15 per hour.
