The Indiana Department of Corrections is asking for nearly 16 million dollars from the State Budget Committee for modernizing the Miami Correctional Facility.

The upgrades would be for a proposed federal immigration and law enforcement agreement to hold immigration violators.

The budget committee will meet Wednesday to consider the request.

The federal government plans to use up to one-thousand beds at the facility for immigration detainees.
