Washington Police were successful Tuesday night in getting a possible suicidal man with a gun to get out of his car at Eastside Park.

Officers responded to the park around 6:35 p.m.

They were initially unsuccessful in making contact with him.

Central Dispatch was then able to contact him by phone, but he refused to exit the vehicle.

The surrounding area was blocked off and the Park was evacuated.

Additional law enforcement officers, the fire department and EMS responded to the scene.

After about 3 hours, Dispatch was able to successfully get the subject to discard the firearm and exit the vehicle to be evaluated by EMS.
