All Commercial Driver’s Licenses held by illegal immigrants in Indiana will expire at midnight Wednesday unless the drivers can prove they have a valid visa.
The new law, passed earlier this month, comes after several deadly crashes involving undocumented drivers.
It also requires future non-citizen CDL applicants to hold one of three approved work visas and show English proficiency.
Employers who knowingly hire drivers without legal status could face fines up to $50,000.
The Indiana Attorney General’s Office says about 2,000 CDL holders will be affected.
