Federal Judge Blocks Indiana’s Ban on Student IDs for Identification to Vote

A federal judge is blocking Indiana’s ban on using student IDs as a form of identification to vote.

A ruling in the United States District Court Southern District of Indiana on Tuesday approved a preliminary injunction that stops Senate Bill 10 from taking effect.

The law was signed by Governor Braun last year.

The measure would have required voters to demonstrate proof of ID using an Indiana driver’s license, state ID card, military ID card, or a U.S. passport.

The injunction issued Tuesday means the law cannot prohibit voters from using documents issued by educational institutions as proof of identification until the case is resolved.
