A new law aims at having Indiana governmental bodies and law enforcement agencies comply with federal immigration enforcement.
The legislation known as the “Fairness Act” was passed during this year’s legislative session and signed into law by Governor Braun before taking effect Wednesday.
Monroe County will be exempt from complying with the new law for now as part of an injunction issued by a judge there.
The measure also gives the Indiana Attorney General the ability to pursue businesses who knowingly hire or employ undocumented immigrants.
