Indiana prison officials moved an Evansville man convicted in a fatal carjacking to a more restrictive housing unit.
State records show Mateo Rodriguez was transferred from the general population at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility to the prison’s Long Term Segregation Unit, where inmates spend up to 24 hours a day separated from others.
Officials have not said why he was moved.
Rodriguez was convicted in 2023 of felony murder, involuntary manslaughter and robbery after prosecutors said he stole a car from a gas station and fatally ran over 33-year-old Megan Schaefer.
