New Animal Abuse Law in Effect in Indiana

A new Indiana law has increased penalties for animal neglect and abuse, making the offense a Level 6 felony with potential prison time.

This change follows the deaths of two dogs left in a hot car in Cicero, resulting in charges against the owner.

The incident prompted prosecutors to emphasize the dangers of leaving pets in vehicles during hot weather.

The law also provides protection for people who rescue animals from dangerous conditions, allowing them to break car windows without facing charges.

Legal experts believe the penalties for animal cruelty should be even more severe.
