135 Indiana farming families were presented with a Hoosier Homestead Award this week at the Indiana State Fair in recognition of their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
To be named a Hoosier Homestead, farms must be owned by the same family for at least 100 consecutive years and consist of more than 20 acres or produce more than $1,000 of agricultural products per year.
The award distinctions are centennial, sesquicentennial and bicentennial – for 100, 150 and 200 years, respectively.
In Daviess County, the Kavanaugh and Eichmiller Farm, established in 1881, received a Centennial Award.
In Knox County, the Tilly Farm, founded in 1912, and the Vance Smith Meier Farm, founded in 1919, received centennial awards.
In Dubois County, the Feldmeyer-Meyer and Meyer Farms, both founded in 1871, received Sesquicentennial Awards.
Also in Dubois County, the Rahman Farm, established in 1926, received a Centennial Award.
