At the request of the Sullivan County Sheriff, Indiana State Police have released additional details of an officer involved fatal shooting in Sullivan, including the names of the two Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies involved.
Deputy Phelan Montgomery and Deputy Hunter Givens have been placed on administrative leave which is customary in an officer-involved shooting.
Deputy Montgomery has four years of law enforcement experience while Deputy Givens has three years’ experience.
An autopsy and forensic evidence show 54-year-old Cameron Lee Atkins of Sullivan died as the result of a gunshot wound by law enforcement officers.
The deputies were serving a protective order at 18-39 Tulip Tree Lane on Wednesday when Atkins pointed a firearm at them, prompting the deputies to shoot Adkins.
The investigation is ongoing.
