IMM to Dedicate World War 2 Tank on Saturday

The Indiana Military Museum in Vincennes will hold a dedication ceremony Saturday commemorating the donation of a Russian World War 2 Model T34-85 tank.

It will be held at 11:00 AM at 715 South 6th Street in the museum’s Annex building.

In 1990 the Wisconsin Military History Museum’s president Robert Costa wrote a letter to Mikhail Gorbachev asking Gorbachev if he would send him a Russian T-34 tank, and he did.

Before leaving Russia, the tank was completely restored and is now the most complete operational T-34 in the US and certainly the most historic.

However, the Wisconsin Museum is now closed, and Costa has passed away.

But, it was his request that the tank be donated to the Indiana Military Museum.

Costa’s family and other dignitaries will be present during the dedication which is open to the public.
