By John Szink Jun 28, 2026 | 8:52 AM

Several new laws in Indiana aimed at better protecting children and improving transparency will take effect on July 1st.

One of the laws requires Indiana Department of Child Services case workers to see a child in person within 30 days of closing a case.

Another law mandates that DCS publicly report any current or past involvement with a child within five days of a child’s death or near-death from abuse or neglect.

Additionally, another law aims to shorten the time biological parents have to comply with court-ordered services.
