Southern Indiana farmers could be harvesting corn earlier than usual after getting crops in the ground weeks ahead of schedule this spring.
Farmers say dry weather lets them start planting as early as March, nearly a month sooner than normal.
The corn is already taller than it usually is this time of year.
Heavy downpours have left standing water in some fields, but farmers say southwest Indiana still has a head start over much of northern Indiana, where wet weather delayed planting.
If the weather cooperates, some expect to begin harvesting corn by the first week of September.
