Knox County Ballot Error Forces Third Re-Programming

By John Szink Oct 2, 2026 | 1:12 PM

A one-word error on the ballot will force Knox County to reprogram all voting machines for a third time before the November election.

The machines were first reprogrammed after Democratic candidate for Vincennes Township Trustee Ashley Carswell moved out of the county and withdrew.

Republican Dennis Kordes will now win re-election automatically.

During the public test of the second programming, officials found the ballot for Vincennes Community School Corporation Board incorrectly said “vote for three” when there are only two at-large seats available.

Because early voting starts Tuesday, October 6th, the Election Board will fix the error and reprogram before then.

A required public hearing will be held Monday, October 5th at 6 p.m. at the Knox County Courthouse.

About 60 mail-in voters already received the incorrect ballot.

They will be mailed a letter and a form to request a corrected replacement.
