A fire destroyed the Riley Post Office in Vigo County early Saturday, and state and federal officials are investigating the cause.

Firefighters responded around 4 a.m. after a passerby reported smoke and flames.

Riley Fire Chief Matt McCullough says firefighters found flames coming from the building’s south side and through the roof.

Firefighters from Honey Creek, Seelyville and Sugar Creek helped battle the fire.

The building is a total loss, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is helping investigate.
